Rattan vs Wicker

Rattan vs Wicker

Firstly, let's address the pronunciation of Rattan, it is pronounced ruh·tan for everyone that was unsure (including us).

Rattan is a material and wicker is the method and technique of weaving. Wicker can be woven from rattan as well as other natural materials that can bend and form a shape.

Where does rattan come from?

The majority of the world’s rattans are found in Indonesia’s forests, with the rest of the world's supply provided by the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Bangladesh among others.

Is bamboo a rattan?

Rattan is a solid while bamboo is hollow. Despite being one of the world's strongest woods, rattan is flexible and can be shaped into uniquely designed furniture.

Uses of rattan

Because of its strong, fibrous qualities, rattan furniture and baskets are a very popular choice. Rattan is flexible, durable, lightweight, and most importantly, attractive and adds a coastal feel to your home decor.
